A Family Tradition
For over 100 years my family has kept the tradition of gathering the weekend before Christmas to make pierogies. Although I’m mainly Italian, my great grandmother, Helen, was Polish, hence where the pierogies come from. We follow her infamous recipe that has been passed down from her to my grandmother, Stella, and then two more generations. After making a few pierogies, I decided to pick up my camera to document the process for the first time in decades. Here are a few images from the afternoon. Enjoy!

Matt,
Awesome, I love hearing about traditions like this! Looks like fun and cool pics.
Well, Mike joked after the Pats win last weekend that we’d have a pierogi party in honor of Gronk’s touchdowns. And that we did, put the sign up on the front door… and Deirdre, Kevin, the 2 kids and my mom came over and we worked from scratch. We use my great grandma Mary’s recipe which is similar to yours, but farmers cheese instead of cottage and no cabbage. She supposedly used to also make blueberry ones topped with sour cream–we’ll try that one soon.

What a great family tradition! Men and women, children and adults, all tied together by tradition and you get to eat great food afterwards!
